The Association for Women in Science is an organization dedicated to helping women in science achieve their career objectives.

Members can participate in all chapter activities, vote in local and national AWIS elections, and hold governing positions in the chapter. Visit our History page to learn more about the founders of our chapter. Or visit our Programs page for an example of the range of topics we cover.
Members receive all chapter event announcements, notices, and newsletters and also the AWIS Magazine; in addition, members have access to the AWIS online membership directory as well as various online publications such as Science’s Next Wave.
AWIS-PHL is governed by an Executive Board elected by the members of the chapter, and operates under bylaws approved by National AWIS.
Chapter dues for the Philadelphia Chapter are $10 ($5 for students or postdocs).
National dues are as follows per membership year which runs from July 1 June 30:
Regular $65
Sustaining $150
Student/Retired/Postdocs $25*
In order to become a member of the Philadelphia Chapter, you MUST also join National AWIS—this is part of our non-profit status. Joining AWIS/AWIS-PHL is a two-step process.
*The National Office has informed us that postdoctoral fellows are permitted to pay membership dues at the student level. This category is intended for all trainees. The only difference between student and regular membership is that student/trainee members do not receive the AWIS Magazine in hardcopy. The AWIS Magazine is available electronically to all members on the AWIS website under Resources.
- STEP 1: Fill out the Chapter Information Form. Completing this form online will generate an automatic e-mail to membership@awisphl.org. This is safe but not encoded. If you do not wish to fill out the form online, there are directions for mailing, faxing, or e-mailing your Chapter Information Form.
Current members may use this form to update their contact information at the Chapter level.
Note: Completing the Chapter Information Form is for the informational puposes only. It will alert the Chapter to your membership and immediately put you on our e-mail list for chapter event announcements, notices (such as mentoring, research, and career opportunities), and newsletters. If you are still deciding on national membership, completing this form puts your name on our e-mail list for a trial period at no charge. You may, of course, decide to join AWIS at any time. To complete the membership process, you must continue to Step 2. - STEP 2: Go to the National AWIS site and click on "Membership" in the upper left corner (or use this link) to complete the membership process. This is a secure site at which you can pay both your National and Chapter dues by credit card. Local dues are returned to the Chapter and are used to support the mentoring activities of AWIS-PHL in the Greater Philadelphia area. Please also consider a donation to the national organization and/or the local chapter. If you do not wish to fill out the form/pay online, there are directions for mailing or faxing your membership form and payment.
